In 1966, Rohm and Haas Company issued its first environmental policy statement which described how it intended to operate its business with regard to its employees and neighbors. The policy has been restated several times since then, most significantly in the 1980's and most recently has been transformed into our current set of Environment, Health and Safety Principles, revised in February, 1998. Throughout this period, the fundamental philosophy which guides the company's behavior remained essentially unchanged since that first policy statement over thirty years ago.
What has changed during that time is awareness. Companies like Rohm and Haas are much more aware today of their relationship with the environment; technological improvements have enabled industry, government and the environmental community to see more clearly the intricate relationships which exist and must be respected; and our neighbors are much more aware of our presence and have rightly demanded an increased role in determining the future of facilities in their communities.
The Rohm and Haas Texas and its employees are committed to Rohm and Haas Company's Environment, Health and Safety Principles. These Principles are discussed as the foundation upon which the company operates its facilities throughout the world. Examples of progress are presented in relation to the specific Principle they represent. Each Rohm and Haas employee is expected to perform every task with these Principles as a guide. Our employees are evaluated on their performance relative to the EHS Principles and are expected to take a leadership role. Throughout our Company's history, we have taken our responsibility to the environment seriously. We always will.
We demonstrate our commitment to these principles through our participation in community organizations including:
East Harris County Manufacturers Association
Deer Park Local Emergency Planning Committee
Texas Chemistry Council
Houston Regional Monitoring
