Rohm and Haas Texas contributes substantial funding and gifts-in-kind to charitable causes, social/civic organizations and educational/youth entities. Rohm and Haas Texas employees assume the responsibility of giving the company a human face by generously volunteering their time and make a significant impact in local community.

Rohm and Haas Texas regularly reviews grant requests from community organizations. To submit a request, please review our guidelines. Here's a look at just a few of the ways that Rohm and Haas is active in the Deer Park Community.

Support for Education

Deer Park Independent School District

Rohm and Haas Texas takes an active approach to educational improvement in the local community. A prime example of this is the close partnership we maintain with San Jacinto Elementary The plant's PAL program pairs a San Jacinto student with a mentor from Rohm and Haas. Teachers at the school say they notice that students involved in the program often gain confidence and improved self-esteem as a result of their interactions with Rohm and Haas employees. In addition to the PAL program, we share the richness of the diverse cultures that make up the Rohm and Haas workforce through the school's Cultural Day. Employees also lend their experience and expertise to the school's Science Day.

Over the years, Rohm and Haas Texas Incorporated has contributed thousands of dollars to the Deer Park ISD Educational Foundation. Through our support the Foundation is able to provide special mini-grants to teachers for innovative instructional programs; district-wide staff development initiatives; support the use of technology in the class room and to make available school-related provisions for students in need.

In 2004, Rohm and Haas made a $30,000 grant to the National Inventor's Hall of Fame to expand its Camp Invention presence in Deer Park, Texas by providing an exceptional hands-on inquiry based educational enrichment for up to 180 students in grades 2-6. At least 18 teachers from the Deer Park ISD schools 12 student instructors. The camps will run for six weeks in succession during the months of June and July 2004 at Deer Park's Outdoor Learning Center facility.

Support for Schools Outside Deer Park

For the past 18 years, Rohm and Haas Texas Incorporated has provided a holiday gift to every student at Douglass Elementary School, a high-needs school in the Houston Area School District. The Rohm and Haas Texas Incorporated African American Leadership Network has an award-winning partnership with Cullen Elementary School. The mission of the AALN Partnership program is to introduce students to the chemical industry and provide mentoring to Cullen students.

Other Educational Outreach

Each summer since 1990, middle school and high school science teachers from across Texas have come to the University of Houston to learn about chemicals and the environment. Rohm and Haas Texas Incorporated is proud to work with the Texas Chemical Council and Association of Chemical Industry of Texas in sponsorship of this program.

Through the Science Teacher Institute, teachers receive the tools they need to teach Texas students to be responsible citizens of this earth. The teachers receive classroom instruction by experts in the environmental field, take field trips, participate in panel discussions and meet industry leaders.

Each participant receives 3 hours of graduate credit and 45 hours of staff development credit in environmental education.

Health and Human Services

United Way of Texas Gulf Coast provides funding to dozens of health and human service organizations throughout the metropolitan Houston area. Through the contributions of site employees and a gift from the corporation, Rohm and Haas Texas provides nearly $150,000 in annual support to the United Way and its affiliated agencies.

Other support for Health and Human Service organizations

Through the company's Team Doers and Dollars for Doers program, Rohm and Haas Company supports employees volunteer efforts in the community by issuing grants to non-profit organizations ranging from $150 to $500 for individual efforts or $500 to $5000 for Team Events. Whether a Rohm and Haas employee volunteers their time as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters, as a baseball coach for the local little league, or participates in a walk-a-thon to combat Aids, Multiple Sclerosis or Breast Cancer, they can earn grants for their organization.

Arts and Culture

Young Audiences of Houston

In 2004 Rohm and Haas Texas provided a grant of $5000 to Young Audiences of Houston, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing children's learning with creative resources from the arts community.
