As I look at my native Texas, I see how it is growing. I see so much beauty in our environment, like our state flower, the bluebonnet, but people are slowly caring less and less about our environment and keeping our environment clean from pollution, trash, etc. If we want our children and our children's children to be able to enjoy our beautiful state, we all must work together to keep Texas clean.

Jacy Johnson
Westbrook Intermediate
Teacher: Jamie Presley

The youth of today are continually distracted by the new available technology of the 21st century. No longer do we wish to spend time outside enjoying nature. But the problem is that the way that responsible care begins is through a love of what you are caring for. So take a walk outside. Experience the love of nature. It's the first step to responsible care.

This mandala of my friends' faces represents my community, and the circle reminds me that we are all connected and that our actions ultimately effect each other. Therefore, we have to be aware of this responsibility whether we are an individual or whether we are an executive of a big company, our decisions can impact others.

Honorable Mention
Cristina Trejo
Highlands Junior High

Scientists estimate that amphibians have been on earth approximately 360 million years, and frogs are among the first vertebrates to leave the water to live on land. Our responsibility as humans is learning to understand and appreciate this planet we share and the impact industry has on the environment. Rohm and Haas Texas Incorporated is committed to responsibily producing products to ensure that both people and our frog friends can continue to live a long life in a safe world.

I have depicted the Great Blue Heron in this picture. Though it is something we need not be concerned about in terms of endangerment at this time, we must take responsibility to ensure that it, and every other living creature have a safe and healthy environment in which to thrive for many years to come.

The destruction and clearing of the rainforest for resources, adds to the ongoing problem of endangering the natural habitat of many diverse animals and plants. One small part we can contribute in conserving resources is by using recycled material this is why I decided to paint my picture on recycled cardboard instead of paper because every effort helps.

Hands holding world This drawing represents where we live. The world is in our hands and we have to take care of it. It depends on us to maintain a peaceful environmental balance so that animals can live and plants can grow.

Pasadena Memorial High School

The gaze of dominance and power hides the troubled fate of these magnificent lizards that face the danger of extinction. While we marvel at their beauty in my interpretation of natures wonders, let us remind ourselves that we can help preserve their existence by commiting ourselves to responsible care. Thus, allowing wildlife the future it deserves.

Beauty of nature is everywhere around us. In my piece, nature represented by trees, water, and human creation a bridge, work together to create a unique form of nature. This peaceful collision should be loved, enjoyed and preserved.

Throughout my life I have known that our community takes many neccesities for granted such as, fresh air, water, and even land. The magnificent seagull is breathing in clean, fresh air that the Earth provides. Therefore, everyone should help maintain our air pure and breathable.

Honorable Mention
Stephen Farris
Ross S. Sterling Sr. High
Teacher: Emrie Werth

In this piece I wanted my cat to symbolize nature and how it is watching over us. It does not have any type of control over how we treat it. I think that it is important to take care of your environment because you are the only person that has control over it. You have the power to destroy it or preserve it.
